The audience this ad appeals to is all people wanting to help out other ecosystems but mostly young adults/adults because you need to be able to go to the WWF Web site and donate.

This ad is for the World Wildlife Fund and depicts a giraffe made out of pennies. This ad is informative because it tells the audience they “can save the world with a few coins”.

I think the line is very effective because it gives average people a very simple way to help out a very important cause. Making a giraffe out of coin is also a brilliant idea to show the audience where their coins may go (for example: to preserve an animals’ habitat). The rest of the picture is pretty simple and there aren’t a lot of overpowering images or colors so the focus is not taken away from the giraffe.
The only changes I would make is possibly making the tree and grass out of pennies because a few coins with help save the whole environment not just the animal.

Personal Logo

Photoshop-Illustrator Video

Five things I learned from the video:

1) It’s really important to have an established design foundation. Know the project purpose and know about the clients and what they want.

2) You need to make sure you know what the final size of your document will be so you can create a design appropriate to that size.

3) You can download various Plugins into Illustrator that allows you to easily manipulate paths.

4) Gradient blend tools allow you to go from one color into another and blend various colors together to create effects and make pictures look a bit more realistic. You also do not have to make different objects to fill with other colors so blend modes make a smoother picture.

5) With smart objects you can paste an image into a no fill, no stroke bounding box and it will be pasted in the position you want instead of going directly to the middle of the page.

Logo

The above image is (I believe) a stock logo so it is just on the site so that other can purchase it to use for their product. It uses symbols and text to portray its message. At first glance it is unclear about what the logo stands for. However, the image is very appealing to me because of the use of multiple colors and familiar objects. Obviously this logo would be used in correlation with a feminine product such as make-up or clothing.

Live Trace

In Lesson 9 we had to Live Trace one of the images. The whole Live Trace thing was simple enough but I couldn't figure out how to liven the image up. In the following site they show you how to overlay and create some cool tones on an image. Hope it helps!

Text Path

So, at first I hated the pen tool. Now, the more times I work with the pen tool the better it gets. Here is my image with the text path.

BAD EXAMPLE

• File name for bad example:
F://Graphic_Design/Lesson 6/badfont

• Source of example:
http://www.dafont.com/pictoserie4.font

• Elements of design exhibited (or not exhibited):

This is an alien dingbat font. I have never liked this type of font mainly because I do not think it should be called a font at all. These are characters not letters. Though this example is artistic I just don’t consider it to be a good typography example.

• Why you feel this item is ineffective:
This does not work as a font in my opinion.

• Who is the target audience?
Nerds? Someone that was doing an alien themed party or even a monster themed party could use this as a border or could use the characters to make an invitation.

GOOD EXAMPLE

• File name for good example:
F://Graphic_Design/Lesson 6/goodfont

• Source of example:
My favorite typography site: http://www.dafont.com/treelike.font

• Elements of design exhibited:

I really like this font. It is easily read and incorporates the element it is named after (a tree).

• Why you feel this item is effective:
This font looks very much like wood or even kind of vine like. I feel it is effective because the design elements the creator was trying to achieve were reached. It is a font like looks very much “tree like”.

• Who is the target audience?
The target audience in this case could be someone that is looking for a nature or even a whimsical derived theme.

Clipping Masks

Now clipping masks are by far the easiest mask to do in my opinion or at least I understand them more than the others. If you read Ch. 7 there is a lot more information on the subject but I have to say Web sites on the subject are what helped me through the last assignment. Here is a short video that is very helpful. http://www.republicofcode.com/tutorials/photoshop/video_masks/

Replacing Color

So, I don't know about you guys but I definitely had trouble doing the practice assignment when we had to replace the color of the girls hat. My hat turned out really sloppy and when I was trying to select alternate colors I would get part of the girls face. I went searching for a site that could help me with that problem and here is what I found. I hope it helps you. Good luck!

Composition

This image comes from one of my favorite photographers, Diane Arbus. Because twins are being photographed the native image becomes far more interesting than if a single subject was being photographed. Also, for me the image seems full of emotion partly because of the black and white color scheme but also because one of the girls seems a bit happier than the other. This leaves you wondering about their story.

This is a native photo that my friend Tori took. I like the angle of the photo and how the bubbles seem like they could come out of the picture. I also love the color in the bubbles. Also, how the image is cropped is good because there isn't empty space that takes away from the photo.

I took this picture at SXSW (a music festival in Austin). I really like the jpeg because there was a lot going on. You can't really tell from the photo but I was dead in the middle of the crowd and people were pushing me left and right. Basically I just got really lucky with this shot. The main subject is framed by the crowd and the edge of the image.

Poorly Designed

This image is an example of poor design because it is very cluttered. Though your eyes do go to the home first (or maybe the bulky piece of wood) there isn't a specific place your eyes go to next. The image provides too many dominant pieces for the viewer to look at resulting in a loss of appeal and a loss of the viewers interest.

Well Designed

Good design is indeed felt. You know something is designed well when it fulfills the goal you designed the image for in the first place. You also know good design when it invokes emotion within your audience. I feels that this image shows good design. The finger serves two purposes. One reason is to get the audience to look at the text (which it does) and the other reason is to show the sense of feeling. Though this image is a little off balanced I feel the designer used the negative space well in coloring it and adding aspects of an aged photo. Also, the asymmetrical display of the photo adds character to the image. In my opinion more character than if it was to be perfectly symmetrical.
